Polyester Filament Yarn
Polyester filament yarn is a type of synthetic yarn made from long, continuous polyester fibers. These yarns are used in various industries, including textiles and machine-made carpet production, due to their characteristics such as high strength, resistance to abrasion and sunlight, and recyclability. Polyester filament yarns are also divided into two main categories: monofilament yarns (single fiber) and multifilament yarns (multi-fiber)
Production of Polyester Filament Yarn
The production of polyester filament yarns includes several key steps, which I will mention below:
✅ Raw materials: The main materials used include dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) or terephthalic acid (PTA) and ethylene glycol (EG). These materials are converted into polyester polymer in the polymerization process.
✅ Polymerization: In this stage, the raw materials undergo chemical reactions at high temperature and pressure. This process results in the production of molten polymer.
✅ Spinning: The molten polymer is passed through spinnerets and formed into continuous filaments. These filaments are stabilized using cold air.
✅ Stretching and stabilization: The filaments are stretched to improve their strength and molecular arrangement. They are then stabilized by heat treatment.
✅ Packaging: Finally, the produced yarns are packaged in bobbins or other packages ready for sale.
Features
1. High strength and durability: Due to their filament structure, these yarns have significant resistance to stretching and abrasion.
2. Lightness: Polyester yarns are very light and are suitable for the production of a variety of products.
3. Environmental resistance: They are resistant to moisture, heat, and sunlight.
4. Smooth and uniform texture: Their shiny and uniform appearance creates a more attractive finish for the final products.
Advantages
1. Long life: These yarns are suitable for durable products such as carpets and clothing.
2. Wide application: From textile industries to packaging and decoration, polyester filament yarns have many applications.
3. Recyclability: These yarns are environmentally friendly and can be recycled, which is effective in reducing waste.
4. Economical cost: Compared to some natural yarns, polyester yarns are more cost-effective to produce and use.
Types of Polyester Filament Yarns
Polyester filament yarns are divided into several main categories based on the production process:
✅ POY (Pre-Oriented Yarn): This type of yarn is semi-oriented and is used as a raw material in the production of textured yarns such as DTY and ATY.
✅ FDY (Fully Drawn Yarn): A fully drawn yarn that has high strength and low shrinkage and is used directly in weaving and producing high-quality fabrics.
✅ ATY (Air Textured Yarn): Also known as air-textured yarns, it is made of DTY that has been beaten with air pressure.
✅ DTY (Draw Textured Yarn): It is produced from POY yarn and during the texturing process, it acquires special properties such as greater volume, high flexibility and an appearance similar to natural fibers.
✅ Intermingled yarn: This yarn is also made from DTY by welding DTY yarns at certain intervals.
